Sprinkler
Sprinkler or Micro Irrigation?
It is hard to determine whether installing a high pressure sprinkler system or a low pressure micro-irrigation system is best overall. You will have to consider the advantages and disadvantages of a sprinkler and a micro irrigation system and decide which is best for your case.
Sprinkler Systems
Sprinkler, or high pressure irrigation (as opposed to drip irrigation) is by far the most common system in Sprinkler systems use water piped under high pressure to spray the landscape.
Sprinkler systems are almost entirely underground. The sprinkler heads are the only visible components of a well-designed sprinkler system, and even those are generally unobtrusive or disappear underground when not in use.
Because sprinkler systems require considerable trenching, they are usually more expensive than micro-irrigation, or drip systems. This is not to say that micro irrigation systems are simpler to install.
Sprinkler systems generally require less upkeep than do micro irrigation systems. Usually all sprinkler systems need are minor adjustments and annual drainage. As an investment, sprinkler systems may well be the best choice.
Sprinkler systems use more water than micro irrigation systems but less than conventional watering. Sprinkler systems are most appropriate where ease of care and landscape appearance are more important than water conservation.
