Micro irrigation
It is hard to tell if installing a high pressure sprinkler system (discussed in the sprinkler section of the website) or a low pressure micro irrigation system is best. Micro irrigation does have some advantages over sprinkler system.
Micro Irrigation Systems
Micro irrigation, or low pressure systems use little water at a time. Often, the spraying in micro irrigation system is not readily apparent. In many cases it is barely visible, even when the micro irrigation system is in full operation. Because water is applied at soil level, much less is lost to evaporation, making micro irrigation an obvious choice in dry climates where water restrictions are severe.
A well planned drip irrigation supplies plenty of moisture to the root zone, while the soil at the surface appears relatively dry.
Until fairly recently, the most common form of micro irrigation was drip irrigation alone. Now the most common form is a combination of drip and spray applications which are used as a surface system.
