Choosing lawn mowers based on how much lawn you have

How much lawn do I have? This used to be the basic question for deciding whether to invest in a motorized lawn mower or an automatic lawn mower. It is no longer a controlling factor. Light electric lawn mowers and automatic lawn mowers are now as cheap or cheaper than hand driven lawn mower models. If you are fit and enjoy the exercise, a lawn up to 700 sq. ft can be quite easily tackled with a hand lawn mower - beyond that an electric lawn mower or petrol-driven lawn mower is a good idea.

How quickly do I want to cut the lawn?

Hover lawn mowers will generally cut a lawn more quickly than either cylinder lawn mowers or rotary law mowers, but the real deciding factor is the width of cut. It will take you about 12 minutes to cut 1000 sq. ft of grass with a 12 in.

Petrol driven cylinder lawn mowers increase the cutting width to 14 in. and the time goes down to 10 and a half minutes.
