Lawn care cycle - in the Spring:

Grass starts to grow because of rising soil temperatures and increased sunlight. Every lawn seems to look great this season. But, not every lawn maintains this healthy look throughout the lawn season.

Most homeowners get out on the lawn much too early in the lawn season as far as the soil is concerned. If the soil is still very wet from the winter rains and snows, then any walking on it will cause much more serious compaction than when the soil has had a chance to dry out.

Granular, slow release nitrogen fertilizer applied during the fall promotes good root development for the following spring and fosters some grass green up in the spring. Therefore, fertilizing in the spring is not as essential as many might think.

Lawn care cycle - in the Summer:

The main enemy of grass in the summer is heat. You will see some grass turn brown and go dormant.

One lawn care technique to help this is to raise the lawn mower so the lawn mower blade cuts higher. Longer grass shades the soil and the grass roots, cooling them. This will help keep the grass green in this lawn care cycle.

Traditionally, watering the lawn and grass helps keeping the grass cool. However, this takes time and when you water, it is important to water properly to avoid causing  bug and disease lawn problems. Summer is the season for pest problems, so it might be necessary to take some measure against these lawn problems during this lawn care cycle and lawn season.
